About Hershel Ozick, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Ozick graduated from Columbia College in New York City with a major in biochemistry and received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1977. While an undergraduate he did laboratory work in molecular biology at Columbia and the Weizman Institute of Science in Israel. He did his internal medicine residency at the Downstate-Kings County-Brooklyn VA program and was an attending physician in the Kings County Hospital Emergency Department, one of the busiest emergency services in the United States.

After his residency, Dr. Ozick returned to New York University School of Medicine to do laboratory work in pharmacology. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Grant for an original project involving novel growth factor-drug conjugates.

In 1983 Dr. Ozick completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and began the practice of cardiology with a senior physician in his hometown of New Rochelle. In 1990 he founded Sound Shore Cardiology P.C. which soon grew to be a full-service cardiology practice with 5 physicians and offices
in New Rochelle and Mamaroneck.

Dr. Ozick holds academic appointments at Weill Cornell School of Medicine and the New York Medical College, and is on the attending staff of Sound Shore Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center, Greenwich Hospital and Westchester Medical Center.

Dr. Ozick has appeared in the "Castle Connolly Guide to Top Doctors, NY Metro Area" since its inception, and has been listed in other peer and patient reviewed guides such as the "Guide to America's Top Doctors, Consumer's Resource Council of America", and the Westchester WAG magazine's "Westchester and Greenwich's Leading Physicians".

An avid sailor, Dr. Ozick was actively involved for many years in conservation efforts to protect Long Island Sound from over development.

The father of two grown sons, Dr. Ozick currently resides in New Rochelle with his wife, Lisa, a gastroenterologist.

 


About Paul Gerardi, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Gerardi was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Queens where he attended Archbishop Molloy High School. He was very involved in Track and Field, and still maintains a vigorous exercise regimen. His school’s motto was: nonscholae, sed vitae, which means, “Not for school but for life”. He became an EMT and volunteered at a hospital and on an ambulance. These community activities helped direct his path towards medicine. He attended college at Fordham University at the Rose Hill campus where he was elected President of the Fordham Chapter of the American Institute of Biological Sciences. He continued his volunteer work and became a CPR and ACLS instructor.

He subsequently attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston where he received his medical degree in 1985 and went on to finish his training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Cornell-University-North Shore University Hospital Medical Center.

Upon finishing his training he moved to Westchester in 1990 and joined Dr. Ozick to co-found Sound Shore Cardiology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. He has many hobbies including photography and winemaking. He has been awarded numerous medals for his homemade wines which are recognized across the country.

 

About Leonard DiRe, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Leonard DiRe was born in New York City and grew up in Eastchester, NY. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts University in 1982. He attended Albany Medical College where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1986 and returned back to New York City where he did his medical internship and residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship and residency at Westchester Medical Center in 1991 and then joined Sound Shore Cardiology, P.C.. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine with certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.



About Richard Charney, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I.

Dr. Richard Charney grew up in Yonkers, New York. He received his undergraduate education from the City College of New York and received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1986.  He stayed at Mount Sinai Medical Center for his residency in internal medicine which he completed in 1989.  Dr. Charney completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Montefiore Medical Center in 1992.  He remained at Montefiore as an interventional cardiology fellow and subsequently as an attending in the cardiac catheterization lab. Dr Charney joined Sound Shore Cardiology, P.C. in 1994.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology). He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society of Coronary Angiograph & Interventions. 

Dr. Charney has been an investigator in multiple randomized clinical trials during his career involving the treatment of acute coronary syndromes and coronary artery disease.  He published over 15 peer reviewed articles.  He is still involved in randomized interventional cardiology studies trough his affiliation with Weill Medical College on Cornell University.  This allows him to provide his patients with the latest technology
available.          

In addition to his expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting, Dr. Charney has more recently obtained advance training in peripheral vascular interventions.  This has enabled him to leverage his experience in the repair of the coronary system to other organs such as the kidney and lower extremities. Dr. Charney practices both general and interventional cardiology.



About David Messinger, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Messinger was born in the Bronx and grew up in Queens, NY. He graduated Cum Laude with distinction in all subjects from Cornell University, Ithca, NY in 1983. He then attended Cornell University medical College (currently the Weill-Cornell Medical School) in Manhattan, NY, graduating with his M D. degree in 1987. Dr.Messinger did his post graduate medical training at The New York Hospital- Cornell Medical College ( currently the New York Presbyterian Hospital/ Cornell Campus) in Internal Medicine. Upon completing his internship and residency program at Cornell, he continued there for a four year fellowship in cardiology. This included a dedicated one year fellowship in Interventional Cardiology from 1993-1994. Dr. Messinger was involved in several research projects focusing on the prevention of restenosis after coronary angioplasty. Upon completion of his cardiology fellowship, Dr. Messinger was in private practice in Edison, New Jersey for a two year period.

Dr. Messinger joined Sound Shore Cardiology, P. C. in 1996 and practices non-invasive as well as invasive and interventional cardiology for the group. He was board certified in Internal Medicine in 1990, and holds sub-specialty certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians.
